National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the students of the College to take part in various Government led community service activities & programmes. The primary objective of the programme is to develop the personality and character of the student through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS. NSS was launched in 1969 and at present over 7.4 crore students have benefitted from NSS.
NSS is running in Government College Ramshehar, from the academic session 2022-23 with the motto of “NOT ME, BUT YOU”. NSS volunteers place the ‘community’ before ‘self’. NSS is currently having a Half unit in Government college Ramshehar with an enrollment of 50 volunteers under the guidance of one programme officer.
Various activities, programmes and awareness campaigns have been carried out by the NSS in the college and surrounding villages. Some of them are free medical camp, 7days special camp, restoration of water sources, ‘plastic free village’ campaigns, distribution of Cloth Bags among local people to discourage the usage of Plastic Bags and many more. A volunteer who completes 240 work hours in two academic sessions and attends one 7 days special camp is awarded with a NSS certificate.
Mainly two types of activities are being conducted by NSS in an Academic Sessions:
- Regular activities: Under Regular Activities various activities are being conducted. These are:
- Five One day Camps
- Celebration of the days of national importance i.e. Republic Days, Independence Days , Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Constitution Day etc.
- Activities for community service.
- Various environmental activities i.e. tree plantation drive, cleanliness drive, water bodies restoration , campus beautification etc.
Special Camp:
- A Seven days special camp is organized in the last week of December every year. In this camp Volunteers will take part in various activities:
- Community Service
- Environmental Activities
- Lectures by distinguished personalities
- Cultural and Social activities and many more.
